After 14 years, the Vietnam Monument is now a fact and is installed in Eisenhower Park. Unfortunately it is not paid for yet. Fundraising had been poor in the past few years due to people giving to natural disasters and other monuments. Many corporations never came thru with monies they promised us.
The Nassau County Legislature surprised and delighted us by unanimously voting to give $140,000 to the monument's construction last year. We hoped this amount was all that was needed, but due to cost overruns in construction we are at least $15,000 in the red. We ask anyone, corporate, private or local government who can make a donation to please do so.
The monument is magnificent and is truly a one of a kind in our nation. Please help us finish this awe inspiring sculpture by donating to the final cost of its construction. Any size donation is welcome. Thank you for listening. God bless all who care.
Earmark your check for the Vietnam Monument and send to Nassau County Veterans Monument Fund Inc., P.O. Box 7717, Freeport, NY 11520. For more information call Jo-Ann Broska at 681-8214.
The Walls of Honor is still an ongoing representation of the veterans who served from Nassau County and all of this great nation. A $100 donation puts your name, family or your friend's name on the wall of stainless steel panels mounted on granite blocks. This makes a great gift. Proof of service is required. (DD 214, discharge, etc.) Living and dead are represented, those who served during war and peacetime and all members of the Merchant Marine who served during war time. Write to the above address or call for an application.
