The Long Island Ducks have signed outfielders Dominick Ambrosini and Bryan Goelz, and infielders Rob Cafiero and Jimmy Goelz to contracts for the 2006 baseball season. Cafiero is a native of Massapequa Park.
"Dominick was an all-star last season and Jimmy and Rob were both important members of our team. We expect Bryan to play the same kind of role in 2006," says Ducks general manager Michael Hirsch. "The fact that they are from Long Island gives our fans an added sense of pride in the Ducks."
Ambrosini, a 2005 Atlantic League all-star returns to the Ducks in 2006 for his eighth season of professional baseball. The 25-year old enjoyed a career year in 2005, registering highs in runs scored (56), triples (4), home runs (13), RBI (55), walks (44), stolen bases (15) and slugging percentage (.457). The Ronkonkoma native was originally selected by the Expos in the sixth round of the 1999 draft.
Rob Cafiero returns to the Ducks for his fifth season of professional baseball and second with Long Island in 2006. The Villanova alumni batted .233 with 13 runs and nine RBI in 42 games for the Ducks in 2005.
Jimmy Goelz returns to Long Island for his ninth season of professional baseball. The Smithtown native was selected by the Dodgers in the 16th round of the 1998 draft. Last season, he scored 23 runs with 11 RBI while owning a .926 fielding percentage in 73 games for the Ducks.
Bryan Goelz joins his brother on the Ducks 2006 roster after splitting 2005 with Wilmington (A, Red Sox) and Joliet of the independent Northern League. The New York Tech alum began his professional career as a 36th-round draft pick of the Dodgers in 2002 and is entering his sixth season as a pro. In 75 games for the Blue Rocks last season, he drove in 19 runs, scored 30 and had 13 extra-base hits.
