Massapequa High School Varsity Girls Soccer Coach Kerry Jacobs once again has led the Lady Chiefs varsity soccer team to the end of a stellar season.
Their challenging schedule gave the team the opportunity to play against some of the most competitive teams in New York State, winning their third consecutive Conference, County, and Long Island Championships along with multiple post-season awards.
Despite a season plagued with injuries, the team qualified to travel to Binghamton, New York for the New York State "Final Four," where they won their semi-final game by a score of 6-1 against Greece Arcadia, ranked #2 in the nation.
The following day, the Lady Chiefs went on to win their second New York State Class AA Championship in three years by defeating North Rockland 1-0.
The team was also awarded the tournament "Sportsmanship Award," which is chosen by the tournament referees, and awarded to the team who demonstrates the highest degree of sportsmanship and respect.
In addition to their outstanding teamwork, many key players were recognized for their individual athletic abilities. Gina DiMartino was named All-American, All-State, All-Long Island, All-County, received the Mike Clarke Award and Scholarship presented to the best field player in Nassau County, and was also named "New York State Player of the Year."
Teammate Hannah Sklar was named All-State, All-Long Island, and All-County player, while Ashley Keogh also made All-County player. Annie Hillin, Cassie Zdrojeski, Ali Werner, Caitlin Trupiano, and Shannon Rogers were selected for the All-Class Team. Finally, Taylor Santypal and Victoria DiMartino made the All-Conference team. Accolades went to Coach Kerry Jacobs as well, who was recognized as "New York State Coach of the Year."
