The "Soup Spoilers" gathered in St. David's Evangelical Lutheran Church's kitchen to prepare 20 gallons of vegetarian soup for Christmas at the INN.

The Interfaith Nutrition Network (INN) operates 19 soup kitchens throughout Long Island. The INN cooked or gave out 1,000 turkeys for the hungry and homeless for the Thanksgiving holiday. Twice a month St. David's Soup Spoilers meet and cook a variety of soups and deliver them to the Inn on Babylon Turnpike in Freeport where more than 150 needy people come for a hot meal every day.

According to Ted Ho, one of the group's captains, the soup is also delivered to local shut-ins. He added that he was told that the 1,000 turkeys were donated by two private donors and cooked at the INN by the volunteers, who also served the dinners.

Children who attend the St. David's Evangelical Lutheran Church's preschool morning class are shown gathered in front of their Mitten Tree.

Each year St. David's preschool classes decorate a tree with warm items that include gloves, hats, scarves and mittens. All of the items will be sent to the Lutheran World Relief Fund. During the Christmas weeks the preschoolers presented their Christmas programs to their parents, grandparents and their friends. The programs were held on Saturday, Dec. 17 and Tuesday, Dec. 20. The children sang Christmas songs and everyone enjoyed holiday cookies and juices.
