Last Saturday, the Massapequa Chiefs improved their Conference I record to 5-1 as they defeated Farmingdale, 18-6. The victory was the Chiefs' fifth consecutive win.
With the score tied 6-6 at halftime, the Chiefs grabbed the lead for good in the third quarter, when quarterback Stephen Bentz scampered into the end zone on a five-yard run.
In the final frame, the Chiefs added to their lead on a 30-yard touchdown run by John Pesce.
Pesce was the Chiefs offensive star of the game, rushing for 103 yards on 17 carries. Pesce was filling in for Chris Hurst, the Chiefs regular staring tailback, who was out with a hamstring injury.
Bentz got the scoring started with a 70-yard touchdown pass to Matt Crowley on the Chiefs second play from scrimmage. For the day, Bentz completed 5 of 7 passes for 81 total yards.
The defensive star of the game for Massapequa was linebacker Michael Perez, who had eight tackles, plus two forced fumbles, and a quarterback sack. One of those forced fumbles came in the third quarter and led to the Chiefs go-ahead touchdown drive.
After sustaining a tough opening-game loss to Baldwin, the Chiefs have reeled off five straight wins, placing them in a good position as the season moves into its home stretch. The sore spot of the game against Farmingdale was the Chiefs inability to executive point-after attempts on the three touchdowns.
