The Massapequa Chiefs won their third consecutive game last Saturday, defeating Freeport, 21-20, in an overtime thriller.
A four-yard touchdown run by Stephen Benz tied the score in overtime, and Kevin Zorovich's extra point provided the margin of victory.
The Chiefs jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead. Freeport rallied for a touchdown in the second quarter to make it a 14-6 game at halftime.
The third quarter was scoreless. However, Freeport tied the score in the final frame, by scoring both a touchdown and a two-point conversion.
In addition to scoring the winning touchdown, Benz was 7 for 8 in passing for 101 total yards.
On defense, the Chiefs' biggest star was Mike Perez, who returned a Freeport fumble 15 yards for a first quarter touchdown. In overtime, Perez blocked a point-after attempt, a play that set the stage for the game-winning heroics by Benz and Zorovich.
The Chiefs are now 3-1 in Conference I play.
