The Oyster Bay Town Board recently approved a Request for Proposal (RFP) for engineering services on a road project in Massapequa, according to Town Councilman Angelo A. Delligatti.
The project area, known as Tree Haven, consists of approximately 5.1 miles of road bounded on the north by Sunrise Highway, on the east by Hicksville-Massapequa Road (Rte. 107), on the south by Merrick Road and on the west by the Town of Oyster Bay-Town of Hempstead line.
The project will be done in three phases: part one will take in Linden Street north to Grove Street and Killians Road and the corresponding stretches of Seaford and Forest Avenues; part two will include Maple Street north to Cherry Street and the corresponding stretches of Seaford and Forest Avenues; and part three will encompass Orchard Street north to Locust Street along with the corresponding stretches of Seaford and Forest Avenues, Sycamore Street and Chestnut Street west of Seaford Avenue, as well as the entire length of Riverside Avenue.
The RFP, which was awarded to Sidney B. Bowne and Son, LLP, Consulting Engineers, is for engineering services connected with the design, bid and construction phases of the project. The total amount of the RFP is $1,434,000, but the town board is authorizing only $378,600 at this time for the design of phases one and two of the project. Funds will be authorized at a later date for the bid and construction of phases one and two and for the design, bid and construction of phase three.
The preliminary construction schedule for phase one is 2005/2006. A determination on construction of phases two and three will be determined as the project progresses. A public information meeting will be held before construction begins.
