Mass Held in Massapequa for Abandoned Babies
Police officers, sheriffs, school crossing guards, ambulance drivers, Scout groups and civilians, almost one hundred in all, were in attendance as two tiny caskets were carried into St. Rose of Lima Church in Massapequa Feb. 5 to the sound of bagpipes. The two babies were victims of infanticide by mothers who abandoned them shortly after giving birth.

Fuschillo Spurs Action by Attorney General Regarding Gift Card Law
Senator Charles J. Fuschillo Jr. (8th Senate District) recently announced that, in response to a request he made along with Senator Dean G. Skelos (9th Senate District), New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer is taking action against mall operator Simon Property Group. The two legislators requested an investigation by the attorney general after they discovered that Simon Property Group has been violating recently enacted gift card protections.

Massapequa Athletes Selected for 2005 Vytra Cup All-Star Hockey Squad
Three Massapequa athletes, Robert Pfeiffer, Vinny Schieda, and Andrew Marino, were recently named to the Nassau County high school hockey all-star squad that will face off against Suffolk County in the 9th Annual Vytra Cup Feb. 17 at Nassau Coliseum. A fourth Massapequa resident, Brendan Haughey, a senior at St. Anthony's High School, was named to the Suffolk squad.

Mejias Trains for the Big Day
Nassau County Legislator Dave Mejias (D-North Massapequa), Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi and the Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation and Museum recently announced that the 33rd annual Long Island Marathon and Half Marathon will be held May 1 at Eisenhower Park.
