YES Community Counseling Center recently completed training 35 elementary school students representing each building in the Massapequa School District. Funded by a special grant through the Nassau County Youth Board, these outstanding students were nominated and selected as they demonstrate the leadership qualities required to be a peer mediator.

Each student participated in comprehensive training sessions to prepare them to mediate minor disputes in their buildings. The goal of mediation is to provide an opportunity for students to meet with their peers to resolve conflicts in a peaceful manner, and ultimately improve student relationships.
