Senator Charles J. Fuschillo Jr. (8th Senate District), a member of the New York State Senate Health Committee and leader in the promotion of health issues, presented a pen certificate to the American Cancer Society from the signing of the Clean Indoor Air Act by Governor George Pataki. The law, which Fuschillo sponsored, helps make sure that workers in all public places are protected from secondhand smoke.
"This legislation, which is a great protection for all workers in our state, would not have come to pass without the work of the American Cancer Society," said Fuschillo. "Individuals will no longer be exposed to the dangerous health risks posed by secondhand smoke in the workplace. I thank the American Cancer Society for their efforts in helping pass this landmark public health legislation."
The American Cancer Society was instrumental in gaining the passage of this important health measure. "It was an absolute pleasure working with Senator Fuschillo to pass the law that will protect tens of thousands of New Yorkers by eliminating smoking from all workplaces," said William Stoner, regional advocacy director for the American Cancer Society. "I am proud to accept this pen certificate as a token of the hard work that the American Cancer Society and all of our volunteers added to the effort."
