Police Officer Director Maureen Roach of The Nassau County Police Activity League - Massapequa Unit recently announced final late registration dates for the fall/winter basketball and wrestling programs.

The PAL basketball program has a Line Basketball Division for boys and girls in kindergarten and first grade and separate girls and boys divisions for grades 2-8. Basketball is played December through February. The registration fee is $80. Each player receives a reversible PAL basketball jersey and a participation trophy at the end of the season. Massapequa PAL is also looking for volunteer coaches to assist in this program.

The PAL wrestling program is geared for boys in grades 1-6. Beginning this year, a new six-week beginner's wrestling clinic for boys in grades 1 through 3 (and for all new wrestlers, regardless of age, up to the sixth grade.) Returning wrestlers in grades 4 through 6 will participate in our traditional intramural and travel program. Wrestlers in the beginners clinic will be invited to join the intramural/travel program in January if they choose to continue. Wrestling will run December through February. The registration fee is $60 the Beginner's wrestling clinic and $70 for the advanced wrestling program. Every wrestler will receive a PAL wrestling singlet and a year's end participation trophy.

Our final late registration sessions for the basketball and wrestling programs will be held at the Police Activity League - Massapequa Unit office located at 510 Parkside Blvd. (northeast corner of the Massapequa train station) Oct. 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Oct. 30 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Other fall/winter PAL programs also include the ever-popular PAL bowling program, which has already begun. The bowling program includes bumper bowling for boys and girls ages 4 to 7, junior bowling for ages 8 to 11, and teen bowling for ages 12 and up. Massapequa Bowl, 4235 Merrick Rd. (corner of Hicksville Road) in Massapequa is once again hosting our PAL Bowling Program. Limited openings are still available on a first-come, first-served basis. Contact PAL Bowling Coordinator Lou Anthony, at Massapequa Bowl 541-8000 for further information about the program and registration opportunities.

The PAL tennis program operates all-year and includes both beginner and advanced tennis instruction for boys and girls in grades 1-12. Tennis registration and instruction is held at Massapequa Sportime, 5600 Old Sunrise Highway in Massapequa. The annual registration fee of $25 allows you to enroll in unlimited sessions between Sept. 1 through the following Aug. 31. Once registered, each six-week program will cost only $80 per person. Registration fees must be renewed each Sept. 1. For more information or to register, please call the PAL tennis coordinator at 409-4414.

PAL karate also runs all year offering a 3-month instructional program for ages 7 and up. Classes will meet once a week for a 90-minute session. The registration fee is $50. To register or to get additional information, call the PAL karate office at 971-8835.
