Nassau County District Attorney Denis Dillon recently announced that 28-year-old Kathleen Brown of North Massapequa was sentenced to 18 years to life for the Christmas 2001 murder of her newborn baby boy. Brown was sentenced by Nassau County Court Judge Jerald Carter.

According to Dillon, "Brown pled guilty to Murder in the Second Degree on June 7, admitting that under circumstances evincing a depraved indifference to human life, she engaged in conduct that caused the death of her child. Brown admitted that after delivering the baby in the bedroom, although she had reason to know that the child was alive, she placed the child in a plastic bag and put it under the bed and that she did not seek medical attention for the child."

Brown had been convicted by a jury in May of 2003, but the conviction was later overturned due to an error by the Court during the replacement of a juror.
