Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) and Assemblyman Joseph Saladino (12th Assembly District) recently presented Massapequa resident Alan Chasnov with two New York State military medals.
Chasnov, who served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Marcus Island during WWII, earned the New York State Medal for Merit, which recognizes military personnel who were awarded a valor, achievement, commendation or meritorious service decoration or whose service directly supported combat operations. He was also awarded the Conspicuous Service Bar, which is intended to recognize current and former members of the United States Armed Forces who were recipients of unit commendations from combat.
In addition to the two New York State medals, Chasnov was previously awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with four stars, the Victory Medal, the Philippine Liberation Medal with two stars, the American Theatre Medal, and a Navy unit commendation.
"Mr. Chasnov bravely served our country during WWII, and it is my honor and pleasure to pay tribute to his distinguished service," said Fuschillo. "These medals are symbolic of the gratitude and appreciation of all the residents of New York State."
Fuschillo is always accepting applications for any of the current awards offered by New York State.
