On June 8, the Massapequa Federation of Teachers, a union representing over 650 teachers and secretaries, sponsored its annual Awards Ceremony. The ceremony was held in the Berner Middle School student cafeteria on Carman Mill Road in Massapequa.

The union honored students who received scholarships from either the MFT itself or from the Long Island Teacher Benevolent Fund of the New York State United Teachers. Members of the MFT who retired this year and teachers who recently received tenure were also honored with pins and certificates.

A new feature of this year's program was the recognition by the MFT of parents from the community. These parents were nominated by teachers in the various schools for their vital contributions to children and education in Massapequa and were presented with plagues by MFT President Rich Goldman for their service to the schools.
