Crime Stoppers and the Nassau County Police Department are seeking the public's help in connection with an assault that occurred in Massapequa.

On Nov. 30, 2003, at about 8:10 p.m., the victim, David Abramowicz, a Newsday reporter, was assaulted by two males in John J. Burns Park, located on Merrick Rd. in Massapequa.

Previously, the reporter was contacted by a male who said he had information for the reporter and ultimately arranged a meeting with him at the park. Two white males showed up at the meeting in the park and, after a brief discussion began to assault the reporter. They punched him, threw him to the ground and repeatedly punched and kicked him. One of the subjects hit the reporter in the head with a metal object causing a laceration. The reporter was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Crime Stoppers is asking anyone with information regarding this crime to call their toll free hotline, 1-800-244-TIPS. All calls are anonymous and you do not have to reveal your identity or testify in court. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest in this case.

Additionally, Newsday will pay a total reward of $1,000 to the first person or persons providing information leading to the arrest and prosecution of any suspects in the assault of Abramowicz.
