Nassau County District Attorney Denis Dillon recently announced that Manuel Pacheco was found guilty of murdering an 11-year-old Massapequa girl almost 20 years ago.
According to Dillon, "A Nassau County Court jury today convicted Manuel Pacheco, 35, of intentional murder in the July 17, 1984 drowning of 11-year-old Angela Wong." Wong's body was found face down in a creek in a wooden area near her home in July of 1984.
Pacheco, who was arrested in Los Angeles in March of 2002 and charged with Wong's murder, was 15 years old at the time he committed the crime. As a result, he was convicted as a juvenile offender, and faces a maximum of nine years to life in prison. He will be sentenced on March 26 by Nassau County Court Judge Donald Belfi.
The case was tried by Assistant District Attorney Robert Hayden of the DA's Major Offense Bureau.
