Police Officer Maureen Roach of the Nassau County Police Activity League - Massapequa Unit, recently announced the Winter/Spring 2004 Program lineup which includes boys travel lacrosse, girls travel lacrosse, track, karate, bowling and tennis instruction.
A boys travel lacrosse program for boys in third through sixth grade and a girls travel lacrosse program for girls in third through sixth grade will run from March through June. Players will be responsible for providing their own lacrosse equipment. Details concerning required equipment will be provided at registration. The registration fee is $75. All lacrosse registrants (both new and returning) must submit a photocopy of their birth certificate at the time of registration.
The PAL track program will run from late April through mid-June for boys and girls ages 5 to 17 inclusive. Practices will be held one day during the week with track meets scheduled on Saturdays at various locations throughout the county. The registration fee is $30. Adult volunteers are in great demand for this program.
Registration for lacrosse and track will be held at the Nassau County Police Activity league - Massapequa Unit office at 510 Parkside Blvd. (northeast corner of the LIRR's Massapequa train station) on Thursday evenings, Jan. 8 and Jan. 22, from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday mornings, Jan. 10 and 24, from 9 a.m. to noon. Lacrosse and track registration after these dates (if available) will incur late registration fees.
PAL bowling offers bumper bowling for boys and girls ages 4-7, junior bowling for ages 8-11, and teen bowling for ages 12 and up. Massapequa Bowl, 4235 Merrick Rd. (corner of Hicksville Rd.) in Massapequa, will host bowling activities. Limited openings are still available in the ongoing weekday afternoon program and a new 10-week Saturday morning program will start on Jan. 10. Participants can register for the bowling program at Massapequa Bowl on Thursday, Jan. 8, from 4 to 6 p.m. The registration fee is $10. The PAL tennis program will include both beginner and advanced beginner tennis instruction for boys and girls in grades 1 through 12. PAL tennis registration and instruction is held at Massapequa Sport Time, 5600 Old Sunrise Highway in Massapequa. The annual registration fee of $25 allows you to enroll in unlimited sessions between Sept. 1 through the following Aug. 31. Once registered, each six-week program will cost only $80 per person. Registration fees must be renewed each Sept. 1. Tennis instruction is ongoing throughout the entire year with new programs beginning approximately every two months. PAL karate is a three-month instructional program for ages 7 and up. Classes will meet once a week for a 90-minute session. The registration fee is only $50 for this three-month program. To register or to get additional information call the PAL karate office at 971-8835.
