After much soul-searching and discussion with my family and closest friends, I decided not to seek re-election for a fifth term to the County Legislature this past November. As my term draws to a close, I wanted to use this opportunity to wish you all a joyous and healthy holiday season and thank you for the privilege of serving as your county legislator for the past eight years.
Since 1995 I have been part of a legislature that accomplished many great things: protected our children, preserved open space and our environment, provided tax relief, opened up new opportunities for the disabled and physically challenged, created a year-round assessment review commission that better enables residents to appeal their real property tax bills, solved many of the quality of life problems that are so important to our residents, as well as other issues too numerous to mention. I am proud of my record and happy that I was able to make a positive difference in so many people's lives.
While my tenure in office has been very fulfilling, I feel that it is time to pursue other ventures. As a result of the demands of public office, I am not able to be with my family as much as I would like. There are also new opportunities in my legal career that I am anxious to explore, which would not be possible if I maintained my position as legislator.
My term officially ended on Dec. 31 at midnight, but I will continue to wish you all the health, happiness and success that life in this great county has to offer.
Thank you again for allowing me the privilege of serving you. It has truly been my honor to do so.
Legislator Salvatore B. Pontillo
