The 7th Squad is investigating the assault of a Newsday reporter that occurred Nov. 30 at 8:10 p.m. in Massapequa.
According to Detective Anthony Masciola, the 24-year-old Manhattan man received an anonymous phone call Nov. 24 from an unknown male who stated he had information concerning the use of supplemental drugs by the Massapequa Boys Soccer Team. The victim received numerous calls during the course of the following week from the same male, culminating in an arranged meeting at John Burns Park at approximately 7 p.m.
Shortly thereafter, the victim met with two men, who, after a brief discussion relating to the soccer team, assaulted the victim with their fists and feet, and struck him in the head with an unknown metal object, possibly a wrench. The subjects were last seen running toward John Burns Ave.
The victim notified police and was transported to New Island Hospital in Bethpage for treatment of lacerations to the head.
The subjects are described as follows:
Subject 1: male, white, approximately 16 years old, 5'8-5'9, thin build, clean shaven, wearing a dark knit ski cap on his head and dark clothing.
Subject 2: male, white, approximately 17 years old, 5'10, muscular build, wearing a dark ski cap on his head.
