On Nov. 8, Fifth Avenue in New York became home to American Girl Place, a retail and entertainment destination site designed especially for girls 3 and up. In addition to showcasing the entire collection of the popular American Girls dolls, books and clothing, the store also features a café and 150-seat theater featuring the production of The American Girls Revue, an original musical inspired by the beloved characters and stories of The American Girls Collection.
Twelve-year-old Elora Rosch of North Massapequa is one of the talented young cast members who will help bring to life this inspiring musical starring girls, for girls. Out of the hundreds who auditioned for this demanding theatrical opportunity, a total of 36 girls and 8 adults were selected to play various roles.
The American Girls Revue was written by Broadway talents Gretchen Cryer and Nancy Ford who together have written numerous musicals and plays, including I'm Getting My Act Together, and Taking It on the Road. Cryer and Ford have been joined by a first-class creative team, including director and executive producer Scott Davidson.
The American Girls Revue, which enjoyed an impressive three-year run at the company's Chicago site, officially opens at American Girl Place New York Nov. 21.
The one-hour musical, performed by a cast of eight girls, including N. Massapequa's own Rosch, and four adults, tells the story of a group of modern-day girls at a meeting of their American Girls club. Each girl has prepared to act out her favorite American Girls story for a newcomer not familiar with the characters. As the girls relive the various characters' experiences, they establish the underlying theme of the play: Look to the past; learn for the future.
