The Nassau County Police Activity League - Massapequa Unit, recently announced its spring/summer 2003 program lineup which includes boys baseball, girls softball, a beginners lacrosse clinic, karate, tennis and a variety of summer bowling programs.
A boys baseball program for those in grades K-seven will run from July through August. Games will be played on weeknights beginning at 5:30 p.m. and on Saturdays. Registration is $60 per person. All participants will receive a full uniform and a participation award at season's end. Those who are planning to play on a tournament team for any other summer league should not sign up for Pal Summer Baseball.
A girls softball program for girls in grades K-nine will run during July and August. Games will be played on weeknights beginning at 6 p.m. and on Saturdays. Registration is $60 per person. All registrants will receive shorts, softball jersey, hat and a participation award at season's end.
A special lacrosse clinic will begin May 5 and run for six sessions. This program is geared to beginning lacrosse players who are in grades K, one, and two (as of Jan. 1, 2003). Conducted by experienced lacrosse coaches, this program focuses on basic lacrosse fundamentals for young lacrosse players. Players must bring their own stick and a parent or guardian must remain in attendance during the clinic sessions. Registration is $40 per person. All players will receive a Lacrosse Clinic T-shirt and a participation award at the completion of the clinic.
PAL Bowling offers a large variety of summer programs including Bumper Bowling for boys and girls ages 4-7, junior bowling for ages 8-11, and teen bowling for ages 12 and up.
In addition, they will be bringing back their popular 10-week "Have a Ball Program" for ages 4-16. "Have a Ball" will begin on June 30. All participants will receive a custom-drilled bowling ball and bag at the completion of this special program. The cost of the "Have a Ball" program is $11 per week.
Massapequa PAL will again conduct the PAL Bowling Mini-Camp for ages 4-7. This 10-week instructional program will begin on June 24 and will run from noon to 2 p.m. The cost of this mini-camp is $110 per person (payable in advance).
Massapequa Bowl, 4235 Merrick Rd. (corner of Hicksville Rd.) in Massapequa will host our bowling activities. Participants can register for any of the bowling programs during Massapequa Bowl's normal business hours. The registration fee for all programs is $10, payable by check made out to Massapequa PAL. Call Massapequa Bowl at 541-8000 for schedules and other information.
The PAL Tennis Program will include both beginner and advanced beginner tennis instruction for boys and girls in grades 1-12. This instructional program (six one-hour lessons) will take place at Cedar Creek Park in Seaford. The registration fee is $80 for six one-hour lessons. PAL Karate is a 10-week instructional program for ages 7 and up. Classes will meet once a week for a 90-minute session. The registration fee is $50 for this 10 week program. Registration for boys baseball, girls softball and the lacrosse clinic will be held at the Police Activity League - Massapequa Unit office at 510 Parkside Blvd. (northeast corner of the Massapequa train station) April 3 and 10 from 6 to 9 p.m.; and April 5 and 12 from 9 a.m. to noon. All registrants will receive a free National Child Protection Identification kit courtesy of the Nassau County Police Activity League - Massapequa Unit while supplies last.
