  • News: Remedial Investigation Planned for Massapequa LIRR Substation Site

    The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), together with the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) and the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), are currently in the process of investigating the nature and extent of soil and groundwater contamination at a LIRR substation located in Massapequa. A public information spokesperson for the NYSDEC said he expects the investigation will be completed this summer. FULL STORY

  • Sports: Five Plainedge Varsity Teams Receive Scholar/Athlete Award

    Five Plainedge High School varsity teams were recognized by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association with its Scholar/Athlete Award. To qualify for the award, a team needs a composite grade average of 90 percent or better. The Scholar/Athlete teams are girls varsity tennis, Coach Adam Waterhouse; girls varsity volleyball, Coach Tara Krinsky; girls varsity soccer, Coach Jerry Gates; varsity golf, Coach Bob Thomas; and varsity cross country, Coach Bob Beer.
