The Nassau County Police Activity League - Massapequa Unit is pleased to announce that it will hold its first Lacrosse Equipment "Swap" to be held Jan. 25 at its Massapequa Police Activity league offices. This "Swap" will coincide with the final Lacrosse registration for boys and girls in grades 3 through 6.
Massapequa PAL President Bill Ward said that "lacrosse players at this age frequently outgrow their perfectly good lacrosse equipment - equipment that could have a useful life in the hands of another player." Ward hopes that by having a "Swap" at PAL offices, parents and players can gather to buy, trade or sell previously owned equipment in usable condition and thus help to reduce the cost of participating in this fast-growing sport. If successful, it may become an annual event.
Maureen Roach, police officer and director of the Massapequa Police Activity League said that by holding this swap in conjunction with that last lacrosse registration session, parents can come down to register their sons and daughters in the PAL program and perhaps get a bargain in the process. Others will have a chance to clean out their unused equipment while giving it a second life in the hands of an upcoming lacrosse player. Previous registrants are also welcome to attend.
Officer Roach said that a PAL Boys Travel Lacrosse and a Girls Travel Lacrosse program for grades three through grade six will run from March through June. Players will be responsible for providing their own lacrosse equipment. Details concerning required equipment will be provided at registration. The registration fee is $65. All lacrosse registrants (both new and returning) must submit a photocopy of their birth certificate at the time of registration.
The lacrosse swap and lacrosse registration will be held at the Police Activity League - Massapequa Unit office at 510 Parkside Blvd. (northeast corner of the Massapequa train station) Jan. 25. The registration will start at 9 a.m. and run until noon. The lacrosse equipment swap will be "tail-gate party style" in the parking lot outside the PAL offices. The swap will start at 10 a.m. and run until noon. (An additional registration only session will be held Jan. 23 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.)
Massapequa PAL is also currently taking registrations for its track, bowling, tennis and karate programs. For further information or to volunteer to be a part of the dynamic Police Activity League program, please call the PAL office at 541-3621 or e-mail them at MassPAL@optonline.net.
