Plainedge Financial Planning Meeting Rescheduled
The Plainedge Schools' workshop on financial planning for college, postponed because of snow, will be held on Jan. 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Middle School cafeteria. Sponsored by the guidance department, the meeting is open to all Plainedge parents who wish to get a head start on preparing for college funding.
The workshop facilitator is Michael Brenner, retired Plainedge director of student support services who, in his second career as a financial planner, specializes in college funding programs for parents. As part of his presentation entitled, "Opportunities Available to Parents to Save for Their Child's College Education," Brenner will present an overview of the college financial aid system and discuss what parents can do to position themselves to receive the maximum amount of aid from colleges. He will discuss College 529 plans, Coverdell Education IRA, Hope Scholarship Credit, Lifetime Learning Credit, qualified state tuition programs and using IRA withdrawals to pay college education expenses.
The workshop is the result of a survey of middle school parents who indicated they were interested in learning more about financial planning for college.
