A Massapequa man was among the eight Long Islanders memorialized in a ceremony to honor those who died in the two terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in 1993 and 2001.

Held Sept. 14 at 1 p.m. on the grounds of Astoria Federal Savings branch in Seaford, the memorial, featuring photographs, names, dates of birth and occupations of the residents who lost their lives, was unveiled.

Those honored included Thomas T. Family members were joined by Congressman Peter King (3rd District), NY State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th District), Nassau County Legislators David Dennenberg (19th District) and Sal Pontillo (14th District) for the dedication.

"The foundation of this country was built upon the backs of those who fought and died for freedom," Fuschillo said. "In establishing this memorial, generations of Long Islanders to come may pay tribute to these residents from our community who were lost. Their legacy and their lives will live on in our hearts and minds forever."

The ceremony was officiated by Father Steve Camp of St. William the Abbot and Rabbi Robert Applestone of the Jewish Congregation of Brookville. Members of the Fire Department of New York, New York Police Department, Seaford Chamber of Commerce, Seaford Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus Memorial Council of Seaford also paid special tribute to the lost.

Funds for the creation of the memorial were provided by a New York State Senate grant secured by Fuschillo and with additional support from the Seaford Lions Club. The memorial collage was created and donated by BDR Creative Concepts of Hicksville, with landscaping donated by F&R Landscaping. The Chamber of Commerce will maintain the memorial.
