Ronald G. Hoerner, 58, of Massapequa Park, a retired NYS Police Investigator, died tragically on Sept. 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center. Shortly after retirement from the NYS Police in 1994, Ron joined Summit Security Systems, Inc. In 1996, he became resident manager of security as the World Trade Center. On Sept. 11, Ron was assisting the Port Authority with evacuation plans as well as aiding numerous individuals to safety when he perished in the South Tower. He is dearly missed by his wife, Barbara; parents, Marie and Robert; stepdaughters, Tracey DeTommaso, Jill Thornton and Christie Phelan; and seven grandchildren. Arrangements were made by the McCourt & Trudden Funeral Home, Farmingdale. Burial private at Pinelawn Memorial Park.

Florence Popkin, 83, of Massapequa Park, died on Aug. 8, 2002. She was a member of the NC Planning Commission. Wife of the late Nathan. Mother of Helen Fitzgerald and Nancy Olsen. Grandmother of Lisa Wallace and Scott Fitzgerald. Great-grandmother of Valerie and Rachel Lapin. Sister of Lucille Coleman. Aunt of Melvyn M. Sobel. Mother of her cats Gypsy and Callie.
