Forty-two historic New York women, from Susan B. Anthony to Lucille Ball, to "Grandma Moses" Robinson, and including Massapequa Park's own 2002 Woman of Distinction honoree Nancy Bernheim, Esq., will be featured in the New York State Senate's 'Women of Distinction' Display at the Massapequa Library at Harbor Lane June 17 through 24.

This impressive presentation, which is free of charge, includes photographs and biographies of these exemplary women who played an important role in shaping New York State's and our nation's history.

Úquot;From the women's suffrage movement 150 years ago to the present day, women have played a crucial role in New York State's political, social and economic development,Úquot; said State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th District). Úquot;This display recognizes a few of the countless women who have impacted our communities and enriched the quality of life in New York State, serving as role models for us all.Úquot;

Bernheim,who was honored at a special ceremony in the Legislative Office Building in Albany May 21, an attorney and law partner at Davis and Bernheim, Esqs., said she chose a career where she can serve others.

A lifelong resident of Long Island, Bernheim earned her Juris Doctorate from Touro Law School and was admitted to the bar in New York and Connecticut in 1991. She also holds a bachelor of arts degree in politics, economics and society from SUNY at Old Westbury, earned an AAS in paralegal studies from Nassau Community College and an AAS in secretarial science from SUNY Farmingdale.

Úquot;An accomplished professional, Nancy has helped countless people in the legal industry, yet takes the time to give back to the community,Úquot; said Fuschillo. Úquot;She serves as an inspiration to the many who seek a career as an attorney, but most importantly, a public servant.Úquot;

In addition to her busy schedule at the firm, Bernheim serves as a prosecutor for the Village of Massapequa Park, and belongs to numerous professional organizations that allow her to assist colleagues and support and mentor law students and new attorneys.

Recognized by others for service to the community and the legal profession, Bernheim was also honored with the Town of Oyster Bay's 2001 Woman of Distinction award in Community and Civic Affairs, and the Town of Hempstead's 2000 Award in recognition of Women's History Month by the New York State Division of Women and Nassau County Advisory Council.
