Senator Charles J. Fuschillo Jr. (8th Senate District) recently announced that he will be honoring Nancy Bernheim of Massapequa Park as a 2002 "Woman of Distinction." Bernheim will be honored at a special ceremony in the Legislative Office Building in Albany May 21.

"An accomplished professional, Nancy has helped countless people in the legal industry, yet takes the time to give back to the community," Fuschillo said. "She serves as an inspiration to many who seek a career as an attorney, but most importantly, a public servant."

An attorney and law partner of Davis & Bernheim, Esqs., Bernheim said she chose a career where she can serve others.

A lifelong resident of Long Island, Bernheim earned her Juris Doctorate from Touro Law School and was admitted to the Bar in New York and Connecticut in 1991. She also holds a bachelor of arts in politics, economics, and society from SUNY at Old Westbury, earned an AAS in paralegal studies from Nassau Community College and an AAS in secretarial science from SUNY at Farmingdale.

In addition to her busy schedule at the firm, Bernheim serves as a prosecutor for the Village of Massapequa Park, and belongs to numerous professional organizations allowing her to assist colleagues and support and mentor law students and new attorneys. Bernheim is a member and recording secretary for the Board of Directors of the Nassau Lawyer's Association of Long Island. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Jewish Lawyers of Nassau County, and a member of the New York Family Law American Inn of Court, the Nassau County and New York State Bar Associations, Women's Bar Associations of Nassau and Suffolk Counties Matrimonial Subcommittee of the Nassau County Bar Association and a panel member of the Early Neutral Evaluator for Unified Court System of Nassau County. Bernheim is also a member of Yassar Hadassah.

Bernheim gives back to her community and has played important roles in numerous civic and charitable organizations. She has served as a member of the Floral Park Kiwanis Club, she is a past president of the Massapequa Soccer Club and a former leader in the Nassau County Girl Scouts. She is a member of the Nassau County Federation of Republican Women and belongs to the Touro Law School and SUNY at Farmingdale Alumni Associations.

Bernheim enjoys traveling, golf, and is a member of the Executive Women's Golf Association.

Recognized by others for service to the community and the legal profession, Bernheim was honored with the Town of Oyster Bay's 2001 Woman of Distinction Award in Community and Civic Affairs, and the Town of Hempstead's 2000 Award in recognition of Women's History Month by the New York State Division of Women and Nassau County Advisory Council.

Bernheim is married to Steve Bernheim for over 30 years and between them they have five daughters and eight grandchildren.
