William J. Sawyer, 66, of Massapequa, died on April 4, 2002. A US Marine Corps veteran, he was retired from NYNEX. He was the code inforcement officer for the Village of Amityville, a volunteer with the Amityville Fire Dept., a member of the fire police, past Grand Knight of the K of C, Westfield, NJ, former scout master of Troop 19, St. Martin of Tours. Husband of the late Carol Ann. Father of Patricia and Russell. Brother of George, Thomas, John, Raymond, Mary and the late Harriet Sawyer and Patricia Caruso. Uncle of many nieces and nephews. Arrangements were made by the Powell Funeral Home, Amityville. Funeral Mass at St. Martin of Tours RC Church. Interment St. Charles Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the Amityville Fire Dept. or the Amityville PBA. Mary LaFata, of Massapequa, died on April 4, 2002. Mother of Joseph, Jean Ciulla, Carmela Procter, Viola Haas, Theresa Kelly and Vincent. Grandmother of 21. Great-grandmother of 24. Arrangements were made by the Massapequa Home, North Chapel. Funeral Mass at St. Rose of Lima RC Church. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery. Andrew Taggard, 97, of Massapequa, formerly of Claverack, NY, died on April 7, 2002, at his residence. Born June 27, 1904 in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late George Mills Taggard and Elizabeth (Kempenaar) Taggard. He was a stereotypist with the Journal American in NYC before retiring. Mr. Taggard was a member of the NY Stereotypers Union #1 in NYC. Surviving are a son, Andrew Taggard of Claverack; two daughters, Susan Hoerauf of Massapequa, and Elizabeth Howe of Claverack; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Katherine (Jackman) in 1998. Arrangements were made by the Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, Hudson, NY. Services at Christ Episcopal Church, Hudson. Interment will be a the convenience of the family.
