Crime Stoppers and the Nassau County Police Department are seeking the public's help in connection with a series of larcenies that have been occurring in the Massapequa, Seaford, Bellmore and Wantagh areas.
The Seventh Precinct is currently investigating several cases involving the larceny of wallets, which have occurred at local supermarkets and stores. To date, older women who shop alone during the late morning or early afternoon hours have been targeted. Wallets have been taken from pocketbooks that have been left unattended. Stolen credit cards have been used a short time later at nearby businesses. Female shoppers should be aware of this crime trend and keep their pocketbooks closed and with them at all times. Shoppers should remain alert for any unusual distractions or suspicious persons while shopping, and bring only enough cash and necessary credit cards and identification with them.
Additionally, people involved in athletic activity in recreational areas or neighborhood gyms should refrain from leaving valuables inside their vehicles. There has been an increase in criminal mischief and larcenies from autos while parked at these locations.
Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to arrest of individuals who are involved in these crimes. Call Crime Stoppers toll free hotline at 1-800-244-TIPS--all calls are anonymous.
