Nassau County District Attorney Denis Dillon recently announced a conviction in the May 5, 2000 murder of a Brooklyn man whose body was later found alongside Bethpage State Parkway in Massapequa.
Following a trial before County Court Judge Abbey Boklan, a jury found Corey Edwards, 30, of Brooklyn, guilty of Murder in the Second Degree in the shooting death of 21-year-old Freddie Logan.
According to the New York State Police, who investigated the crime, Edwards, Logan and two friends had driven out to Massapequa on the night of May 5 and Edwards shot Logan when the two entered the woods off the Parkway to relieve themselves. Edwards, who had been previously shot in the hand by a friend of Logan's, was said to be angry with Logan for constantly teasing him about the incident.
Edwards, who was also found guilty of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, will be sentenced April 12. He faces 25 years to life in prison.
