During half-time of Massapequa's homecoming game against Hempstead, the Massapequa Board of Education and Superintendent Dr. Pereira presented certificates of appreciation to school and community organizations in recognition of the assistance and comfort provided to those affected by the events of Sept. 11. Among those recognized were building principals on behalf of their students, staff and school communities, the Massapequa Kiwanis, the Massapequa Chamber of Commerce, the Interfaith Council, the 7th Precinct, the Massapequa Fire Department, and the Massapequa PTA. At the start of the homecoming parade, students lay a wreath at the Volunteer Firemen Memorial at Massapequa Park train station symbolizing their gratitude.

Seventh Precinct Commander Thompson is presented with a plaque of appreciation by Arlene Martin and Mark Feinstein of the Massapequa Board of Education.
