Autumn in Massapequa will be more beautiful than ever thanks to 34 new trees being planted at the storm water basin on Jerome St., between Wicks Ave. and Meadow Lane.

This project is part of the Community Beautification Program begun by Nassau County Executive Thomas S. Gulotta several years ago in order to instill pride in local communities. In many instances, local community organizations have proposed beautification projects. The county provides the material, while community volunteers provide the labor. Beautification projects supported by the county must, by law, be limited to county roadways and facilities.

The project is scheduled to begin during the fall 2001 planting season. Every effort will be made to keep inconvenience to a minimum.

"Maintaining the beauty of our communities is important in maintaining our sense of community life and pride," Gulotta said. "Through the dedicated efforts of our citizens working cooperatively with our county, we are able to uphold our nationally ranked, outstanding quality of life in Nassau County."
