After over 35 years of active adult service to the Massapequa Association of Girl Scouts, Sheila Bohan, chair of Association Volunteers recently retired.

Massapequa 11- and 12-year-olds recently made the New York State Little League Championships, and Nassau County Legislator Peter J. Schmitt was on hand to throw out the first ball. "We are very proud of this team," said Schmitt. "Win or lose they are true champions."

"Fly With the Angels" on September 8
Massapequa runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes of all ages and levels of ability are invited to join in the fun, Sept. 8 for the second annual Fly With the Angels Run, over a fast, flat four mile course that starts and finishes at Nassau County's Bay Park in East Rockaway.

Locals Take Home Hoops Silver
Jessica Powers and Kathryn Carpenter of Massapequa received silver medals for their performances at the Empire State Games, held July 25-29 at Utica, New York. The girls were selected to play on the Women's Scholastic Basketball Team, representing the Long Island region. The team entered the gold medal round with a 3-0 record, including a 65-46 win over Central before Central pulled out a 74-71 victory. Long Island (3-1) earned the silver, the first medal for the region in Women's Scholastic Basketball in three years.
