Jessica Powers and Kathryn Carpenter of Massapequa received silver medals for their performances at the Empire State Games, held July 25-29 at Utica, New York. The girls were selected to play on the Women's Scholastic Basketball Team, representing the Long Island region. The team entered the gold medal round with a 3-0 record, including a 65-46 win over Central before Central pulled out a 74-71 victory. Long Island (3-1) earned the silver, the first medal for the region in Women's Scholastic Basketball in three years. FULL STORY
