Massapequa Resident Named Nurse of Distinction
As early as her sophomore year in high school, Pam Reynolds knew she wanted to be a nurse. "I always liked helping people," she said. However, she said she was "shocked" about being chosen as New Island Hospital's 2001 Nurse of Distinction. "They could have chosen so many wonderful nurses in the department where I work, as well as throughout the hospital."

Massapequa Runners Score High in L.I. Police Appreciation Run
Nearly 500 runners were on hand in Eisenhower Park June 7 for the 10th annual edition of the David Lerner Associates Long Island Police Appreciation Run--the Long Island running community's way of saying "thank you" to the outstanding men and women of the local police forces in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

Massapequa Athletes Headed to the AAU Nationals
Kevin Dooley, Brian Nelson and Kevin Vosilla, 8th grade students in the Massapequa School District, have qualified to go to Orlando, Florida to represent the Metropolitan New York area in the boys 14 and under division at the AAU National Basketball Tournament June 27 through July 4.

Massapequa Park Bicycle Club to Support Wheelchair Race
The Massapequa Park Bicycle Club recently signed on as a supporter of the 10th Annual Salomon Smith Barney Nick Katsounis Memorial 10 Kilometer Wheelchair Championship Race, to be held on the roads of Farmingdale June 24. The Bicycle Club will provide several dozen volunteers to help out at the event, as well as supplying some much needed financial support.
