The first and only professional beach volleyball facility on Long Island opened for its second full season at Jones Beach State Park thanks to the combined efforts of the Long Island Volleyball Association and the representatives of the New York State Parks and Recreational Department. The facility was designed and built over the past two years and features six well-groomed sand courts, outdoor lighting, bleachers, and music. It is located at field 4, just off the boardwalk, next to the miniature golf course. The outdoor lighting will now allow people who work late to make it down to the beach to play.

Four leagues each night Monday through Friday at 6:45, 7:40, 8:35 and 9:30 p.m. Coed six-person beginner, intermediate and advanced leagues. Also, coed 4's, 2's, men's, women's, 4's, 2's.

Teams can get their company or business to sponsor their team, can create their own, or can join one of the pick-up teams themselves. Beginner, competitive, corporate, social teams and single individuals are welcome. Ages rage from 17 to 58. There are parties and barbecues after the games each night, season ending parties, music, concession stand, and the Boardwalk Restaurant. Fees: $425 for coed six-man teams; $400 four-man teams; $250 two-man teams and $75 for single individuals.

The Long Island Volleyball Associations is in its fourth year of operation (over 500 teams have and are currently playing in their leagues to date). Its mission is to promote the sport of volleyball by offering the most fun, exciting, and organized beach volleyball leagues, tournaments, clinics, and charity events throughout the Long Island and Metro area. To bring together people of all skill levels and backgrounds to enjoy the pleasure of team play, healthy competition, and good exercise.
