Overcast skies couldn't keep residents of the Massapequas from attending the Memorial Day Parade and Service, which began at approximately 10:30 a.m. May 28. Young and old alike lined the streets to pay tribute to those who made the supreme sacrifice in defense of our nation, and to welcome New York State Governor George Pataki, who marched in the parade, to Massapequa Park.

The parade was jointly conducted by the Massapequa American Legion Post 1066 and the Sgt. F. Colleran Post 7763, Veterans of Foreign Wars of Massapequa Park. It began on Front Street, traveled North on Park Boulevard, West on Clark Boulevard, South on Parkside Boulevard and West on Veterans Boulevard, ending in front of the Massapequa American Legion Post 1066 where it was reviewed. A Memorial Service and wreath laying ceremony was held at the American Legion.

Even though the sun was in short supply, this year's Memorial Day Parade was a success.
