Massapequa High School senior guard Tom Femminella has rewritten the record books. On Jan. 26, he hit a three-pointer with 6:52 left in the first quarter for his 1000th point to lead Massapequa over Herricks, 64-41 in a Conference A-1 boys' basketball game. Then, on Feb. 9, at a game against Calhoun, Femminella became Massapequa High School All-Time Leading Scorer, passing the old record of 1,111 points set back in 1977 by Harry Rote. Femminella finished his high school career with 1,170 points, while leading his team to a 8-4 league record and into the playoffs for a second straight year.

Femminella also holds the record for three-point shooting at Massapequa High School, the most three-point field goals in a game (ten vs. Herricks Jan. 12), the most in a season with 90 three-point field goals made this past season and 218 career three-point field goals, both school records.

Femminella has also led Nassau County Conference A-1 in scoring the past two seasons with 25 points per game 2000-2001 season, and 23 points per game in the 1999-2000 season. He also lead Nassau County in free-throw percentage at 96 percent, going 101 out of 105, with 65 consecutively.

A the Nassau County Boys Basketball Coaches Association Annual Awards Dinner held March 20, Femminella, an All-County First Team selection was named Conference Player of the Year, and was awarded the Russ Bastin Award. Femminella now takes his game to LeMoyne College in Syracuse, where he signed for a full scholarship to play basketball.
