Massapequa Park's downtown shopping area will soon receive a summer face-lift. Through Nassau County's Operation Downtown program, contracts with a bid-winning contractor were recently executed for a downtown revitalization to begin in the middle of June.

Local Basketball Star Breaks Records
Massapequa High School senior guard Tom Femminella has rewritten the record books. On Jan. 26, he hit a three-pointer with 6:52 left in the first quarter for his 1000th point to lead Massapequa over Herricks, 64-41 in a Conference A-1 boys' basketball game. Then, on Feb. 9, at a game against Calhoun, Femminella became Massapequa High School All-Time Leading Scorer, passing the old record of 1,111 points set back in 1977 by Harry Rote. Femminella finished his high school career with 1,170 points, while leading his team to a 8-4 league record and into the playoffs for a second straight year.
