James Madison University Women's Volleyball Coach Disa Garner recently announced the signing of Kate Fuchs (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) to scholarship.
Fuchs, a 6 ft. 2-1/2 in. middle, played for Coach Ann Habeeb at Massapequa High School. She was a two-time Most Valuable Player for the Chiefs, twice earned All-Nassau County and was recognized as a scholar-athlete throughout her career. She was named to five all-tournament teams during her final two scholastic seasons, and she helped lead the Chiefs to the school's first Nassau County Sectional Championship.
Fuchs also played for Coach Rick Cole and the Long Island Power Volleyball Club, the same organization that produced former JMU All-Conference standout Taryn Kirk and Christina Gianino.
"Kate will help us have a much bigger presence at the net," said Garner. "She is versatile, has a terrific work ethic, and knows how to win. She has a burning desire to be the best. We are looking forward to immediate contributions from her."
Fuchs will join outside hitters Aran Gallagher (Boulder, CO/Boulder) and Jen LeMoine (Virginia Beach, VA/Salem) in the Dukes' 2001 recruiting class. Gallagher and LeMoine signed with the Dukes in November.
James Madison is a member of the Colonial Athletic Association, a Division I Conference of the NCAA. The Dukes finished 21-10 in 2000 and won their second consecutive CAA title to earn a second straight berth into the NCAA tournament.
