The Massapequa Basketball Booster Club reports that the girls varsity basketball team has completed another outstanding season. The Lady Chiefs ended with an impressive 18-3 overall record, and were finalists at the Nassau County Championship, held at Hofstra University. This was the sixth year in a row that the team went to Hofstra. Last season, the team traveled to Troy, NY and became New York state finalists.
The Nassau County Girls Basketball Coaches Association's Awards Dinner was held at the Crest Hollow Country Club, March 27 and honored the following players for their performance:
Megan Busch - All County; Jessica Powers - All County; Colette Carpenter - All Conference; Kellie Stuart - All Conference; and Kathryn Carpenter - All Division.
Coach Shari Roessler received Conference Coach of the Year 2001 Award.
The Booster Club congratulates their senior players. Both senior captains Megan Busch and Colette Carpenter were highly recruited to continue their athletic careers in college. Busch will continue her basketball career playing at Mount Saint Mary's College, NY, and will major in computer science. Carpenter has committed to Stonehill College, MA to play lacrosse, and will be majoring in business. Jen Bloom will continue her academic career at Hofstra, and will be majoring in music.
