Congratulations to James Altadonna on his election as mayor of Massapequa Park. It was gratifying to see that I wasn't the only one irritated after reading the letters of our Past Mayor Robert Thompson and Deputy Mayor Marvin Guberman.
I publicly want to thank them for their past honest service and caring for the village. Mayor Thompson's letter was the deciding factor on whom my husband and I would vote for.
Some thoughts:
I would like independent boards that are truly non-political and not having their independence threatened as stated in Mayor Thompson's letter.
I want an open village government with information as to what is happening in and to the village; and being able to debate and vote on it.
Years back, the village had a quarterly cable TV program. Also the village hall was open on Saturday mornings so that we could talk to our public officials. Many people work all week, and perhaps would like this again.
I think the recently elected officials should reread Mayor Thompson and Deputy Mayor Guberman's letters.
The flagpole in the village doesn't really bother me as long as there is a flag on it. What does perturb me is that there was no meeting on the cellular tower as to the pros and cons and health concerns.
I also don't like it that the mayor's good friend and business associate was the president of the phone tower company as stated in Deputy Mayor Guberman's letter. This would have been brought out at a public hearing.
A note to our new mayor, please don't be in such a rush to sell the salt storage facility just because it increased in value. Land is valuable and we might need it in the future. Many towns regret that they had sold excess land in haste, and now realize that they need it.
Again congratulations to our new mayor. Please keep your concern with all of the village, north and south and I'm looking forward to your public hearings and good works.
Mrs. Alice Scheferston
