Friends of the Massapequa Preserve will join the Long Island Greenbelt Trail Conference in leading a hike through the Massapequa Preserve this Sunday, Jan. 28, at 12 p.m. The hike, lasting about one to one and a half hours, will be moderately paced, and tour the southern end of the Nassau Greenbelt Trail. Those who wish to participate should meet the group on Ocean Avenue at Merrick Road, Massapequa. In the case of rain or heavy snow, the event will be cancelled. For more information about the hike, one may call Lisa Schary at 826-8339.

Both branches of the Massapequa Public Library are currently showcasing stunning photos of the preserve throughout the month of January, sponsored by the Friends of the Massapequa Preserve, a newly formed local organization dedicated to protecting, caring for, and restoring this precious community resource. "Friends" also extended thanks to the more than 60 concerned citizens who participated in their first public program at the Bar Harbor Library last Wednesday.

For more information about Friends, one may call the organization at 541-2461.
