Two robberies involving guns occurred within the past two weeks in Massapequa, according to reports by the Nassau County Police Department's 8th precinct.
The first robbery took place at Blockbuster Video, at 998 Carmens Road. According to detectives, a male, black, 18-25 years old, approximately 5'9", 175 lbs., entered the store at approximately 12:30 a.m., displayed a handgun, and demanded money. The suspect removed an undetermined amount of money from the safe. The suspect then grabbed one employee and brought him out to the parking lot where the victim's vehicle was parked. The suspect blindfolded the victim and fled the scene eastbound for approximately five minutes and dropped off the victim and his vehicle at an unknown location.
The other robbery occurred on Dec. 28 at 11:50 p.m. in Massapequa. According to detectives, an 18-year-old male victim was congregating with friends in front of a house on Rhode Island Ave. in Massapequa when he was approached by three male Hispanics who demanded his cell phone. One of the subjects produced a handgun, pointed it at the victim and his friend, and pulled the trigger. The weapon did not fire at first, but then another shot was fired at the victim's foot, and caused an entry wound. The assailants fled the scene in an unknown direction. All the subjects were wearing hooded sweatshirts and gray scarves around their faces.
Detectives asked that anyone with information about either robbery call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. They assured that all callers will remain anonymous.
