First-year Le Moyne College head men's basketball coach Steve Evans has announced the signing of his first recruit for the Class of 2005. Sharpshooter Tom Femminella of Massapequa has signed an NCAA national letter of intent to play for the Division II Dolphins next season.

"We're very excited to have Tom joining our program next year," Evans said. "His ability to make open shots will help our up-tempo style. He is by far one of the best shooters we saw this fall."

Femminella chose Le Moyne College over Division I scholarship offers from Air Force, Stony Brook, Saint Peter's and many Division II programs.

"He's one of the best spot-up shooters you'll find anywhere," Tom Konchlski, editor of the HSBI Report said. "As a shooting guard, he has a very quick release and intergalactic range. He can fill the basket from very deep."

At Massapequa last season, Femminella averaged 24 points per game, seven assists and converted on 51 percent of his three-point attempts. He topped the Nassau County Conference scoring chart last season and set a new Massapequa High School single-season three-point mark with 88 trifectas.

"He's probably the best scorer we've had in my tenure at Massapequa," Femminella's high school head coach Marty Voigt said. "I don't think any one has worked as hard as he has. He has great range and a very high basketball IQ."

The Dolphins compete in the Northeast-10 Conference, one of the nation's toughest Division II leagues.

Le Moyne College is a private, four-year Jesuit College enrolling approximately 2,000 full-time undergraduate students in a program of liberal arts, sciences and pre-professional studies. Founded in 1946, it is the second youngest of the 28 Jesuit Colleges.
