The Massapequa High School 2000 Varsity Field Hockey team, coached by Tisha Werner, recently completed an outstanding season. The following are the team's accomplishments:
* They won their second straight Nassau County Championship by defeating Baldwin 2-0.
* They lost to Ward Melville High School in the Long Island Championship in sudden death on penalty strokes.
* At the annual county awards dinner, the team was honored for having the highest combined academic average to win the Scholar--Athlete Team Award for Nassau County. The top 12 averages of team members calculated to produce an unweighted average of 96.74. Additionally, six other team members made the scholar athlete team for maintaining averages above 90 throughout the season. Eighteen of 19 team members maintained averages above 90.
* This is the second straight year that the team has won the Scholar-Athlete Team Award.
* The team is now awaiting news to see if they are going to win their second straight New York State Academic Title.
* Junior Christine Duncan was Massapequa field hockey's top scholar athlete with an average over 98.
