On Aug. 28, Tom and Lorraine LoVarco from the American Black Belt Academy in Massapequa Park will bring their amazing karate demo team to Burns Park to host a fund raiser for Christina Cowan. The event is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. on the front ballfield.
Cowan is a 9-year-old student at East Lake Elementary School. At 6-1/2 months old she was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis and now is in need of a double lung transplant. She and her family are currently in North Carolina waiting for a donor. A fund has been set up in her name to assist with medical bills.
"This is an opportunity for the entire community to come together for a worthy cause and for the children involved to learn the value of helping someone in need," said the LoVarcos at the American Black Belt Academy.
Admission to the benefit is $5 per adult and $3 for children under 12. The fee to become a corporate sponsor is $100 and will include a sign in the outfield, admission for four and acknowledgments at the event and in the program. Tickets can be purchased at the karate school and any contributions can be sent to the "Christina Cowan Fund," c/o The American Black Belt Academy at 4891 Merrick Road, Massapequa Park, NY 11762. Please make checks payable to the Christina Cowan Fund. For any additional information, call 795-8531 or email to fourfists@aol.com.
