Massapequa Bird Among First in County to Test Positive for West Nile Virus
In addition to the recent finding of birds in North Wantagh, Bethpage, and Plainview, testing positive for the West Nile Virus, this Wednesday it was announced that two more birds have tested positive for the virus, a bluejay in Massapequa and a crow in East Hills.

Softball Benefit for Mercy Cancer Care Unit
The Fifth Annual O'Donnell Family Benefit Softball Game for Mercy Medical Center's Cancer Care Unit will be played on Thursday, Aug. 31, from 8 to 11 p.m. at John J. Burns Memorial Park, Merrick Road. The game will pit the WBAB-FM All-Stars against the Mean Street Custom Auto All-Stars, a team composed of O'Donnell family and friends. The benefit, in memory of Doryal O'Donnell of Baldwin, will raise funds for Mercy's Cancer Care Unit, where Mrs. O'Donnell fought a valiant battle against the disease. Golden Lions Lose Two at Walker Field
The South Shore Softball League's top two offensive teams met at Walker Field in Massapequa Park. However, mounting injuries finally took their toll on the Columbus Lodge Golden Lions as the league's top offensive team (FTW) defeated the Lions twice, 16-4 and 14-3. "Right now, we're a banged up team," said Lions' manager Ed Bochynski.
