Donna McMahon of Farmingdale made a strong bid to clinch top honors among Long Island women runners over the Independence Day weekend. She took top honors in both the Massapequa Firecracker 5 Kilometer Run on July 2 and the Bellmore 4 Mile Run on July 4. Both races are part of the 23-race KeySpan 2000 Grand Prix of Long Island road races administered by Long Island Track & Field.

At the Massapequa Run, KeySpan's Marty Trashansky on the left and Long Island Track & Field President Susan Polansky on the right, congratulate overall winners Donna McMahon and Mike Guastella.

Donna scored top honors in the Massapequa Run on Sunday with a strong finish of 18 minutes, 19 seconds, a pace of 5:54 per mile over the 3.107 mile course that finished in Brady Park. She followed up by completing the Bellmore Run in 24:12, a 6:03 pace.

"We are thrilled to have such an outstanding runner as Donna playing such a prominent role in this year's KeySpan Grand Prix," observed Marty Trashansky of KeySpan Energy. "She is a tough competitor and a wonderful young lady."
