Karl V. Anton, Jr., publisher and editor-in-chief of Anton Community Newspapers, died Saturday morning at his home in North Merrick with his wife Angela Susan Anton by his side. His death followed a short illness of cancer. He was 81 years old. FULL STORY

Donna McMahon of Farmingdale made a strong bid to clinch top honors among Long Island women runners over the Independence Day weekend. She took top honors in both the Massapequa Firecracker 5 Kilometer Run on July 2 and the Bellmore 4 Mile Run on July 4.
